EU lays down the law on green PCs | The Register
EU lays down the law on green PCs, because apparently wasteful devices create hidden costs for consumers. Well not particually well hidden since they tend to show up on my bill a the end of the month and:
"The directive will set mandatory standards that companies must comply with, Defra explains, but stresses that it is not intended to stifle businesses. Defra also argues that the directive emphasises the importance of voluntary action from businesses, to avoid the need for future regulation."Mandatory standards voluntary? I guess they mean that it is voluntary so long as everybody volunteers, and if they don't well then they will be volunteered anyway whether they want to or not. As for not stiffling business, I have yet to see anything that comes out of the EU that doesn't stiffle business.
